I heard a story on OPB awhile back. It was about Jasper Lawrence, a man who discovered that people in third-world countries seldom suffer from allergies and auto-immune disorders, as compared to Americans. He traveled to West Africa and purposely infected himself with parasites…. hookworms. His allergies, once bad enough he couldn’t ride down the street without his eyes swelling shut, subsided.
The orginal story about Parasites aired on Radiolab in September 2009. Hear it here: http://www.radiolab.org/2009/sep/07/
An update to the story was posted in April 2010, after revisiting Jasper Lawrence. Here it here: http://www.radiolab.org/blogs/radiolab-blog/2010/apr/02/an-update-on-hookworms/

Ballsheimers: noun 1. a condition characterized by a stunt that rides the fine line between “hardcore” and “stupid,” with a subsequent lack of memory or recall of the event. (e.g., “You don’t remember bombing that sick run? What do you have, Ballsheimers?”
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails.

Life is left-handed, meaning proteins spiral toward the left. This is a really intriguing topic!
Benford’s Law is a mathematical equation that predicts numbers that occur in any sequence will start with a 1 (one) 30% of the time, and a 9 (nine) only 4% of the time!
That’s how people can audit and spot “cooked books” in audits, simply by noticing an inordinate number of values that start with 8 or 9!
Talon was my brother Mike’s dog. I had a special connection with Talon from the time we lived in Missouri, when him and Emily got her as a puppy. I loved her. We spent time on the rivers and in the mountains. The photo of her shows her personality. Just like all great dogs, we will miss her. Here is a photo tribute to the life of a wonderful, wonderful dog.
